Philka Tenneh Kamara known by her fans as Empress P was born on 12 January 1992 into the Limba tribe, of Sierra Leone and from an extended Christian family of 6 boys and 4 girls to proud parents. Hon Philipson Kamara and Kathy Kamara. She attended the Y.W.C. Preparatory School Freetown, ANNIE WALSH MEMORIAL SEC SCHOOL and the IPAM University Sierra Leone, where she is currently studying Pure and Applied Accounting.
Empress’s genre is rap music, a skill she developed in her early years to express her thoughts to the educated and uneducated over the years with messages of peace, survival, and hope. Something that she later used to work with on advertising campaigns for big companies. In 2010 She started raping officially when inspired by one of Sierra Leone’s Kings of rap Kao Denero and has since created a phenomenal chain reaction among female rappers that sets her apart as one of the best female hip hop rappers Sierra Leone has ever produced .
In 2012 Empress was signed by REEMS entertainment which took her career to another level producing songs like “WATCH ME” SEE ME DOWN FT JOECILIA GBONDO, followed by COMOT PAN DEM BAD ft. KAO DENERO…BIG PICTURE FT LEX BUBBLE. Then FEMININE ERA (99BARS)” Which created a nationwide impact in female rap. The ripple effect of the avalanche of talent that Empress generated had her nominated over 5 times as best female hiphop rapper and over 3 times as best new artist. She won the Lake Productions 2013 best new artists award and 2014 diaspora best new artist award.
In 2015 when Ebola struck Sierra Leone, she was opportune to be the only female artist in the group that became known as Concerned Artists which was formed to address issues that could result as an effect of the Ebola virus outbreak, they toured the country, sensitizing people about different out breaks that have been in Sierra Leone in a positive way, working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the Ministry of Education. The group comprised of some of Sierra Leones renowned artists such Camouflage, the infamous C.bolt and many others.
In 2015 she was also appointed an Ambassador to one of the most popularly rated phone companies in Sub-Saharan Africa – Airtel. Empress is presently the face of REEMs entertainment, the biggest management record label in Sierra Leone, with one successful hit after another, Empress believes it takes blessings and relentless effort for a girl with no album to have come so far. Empress once again shocked the world in 2016 with the release of Sierra Leone’s best music video Boom Bam Boom, which made it to Sierra Leone’s top ten on every radio station, and it is still trending and topping the charts.
The nation has waited expectantly for the most widely marketed song recently released MICHELLE &OBAMA by Empress P ft.Camouflage. As REEMs Entertainment works on the music video for “YESU” (Jesus) Empress featuring a renowned Sierra Leone gospel artist Mackie Scott, she has now released her album Green Light, in which this event was covered by Trace Naija TV station from Nigeria. This album is full of surprises, creativity, and finesse,something that has never occurred in the Female hip hop sector of Sierra Leone, a 16 track album with 80% collaboration.
